News: Richard Mille unveils tourbillon for Olympic sprinter

Richard Mille has just announced that an Olympic sprinter will be running with a tourbillon on his wrist, much like how Rafael Nadal plays tennis with his RM027 tourbillon on his right wrist.

Looking like a variation of the RM038 Bubba Watson, this new ultra-light tourbillon has a yellow, green and black colour scheme, just like the Jamaican flag. So perhaps it's Yohan Blake or Asafa Powell? Fellow Jamaican Usain Bolt is already a Hublot ambassador. The athlete's identity will only be revealed three days after the closing of the games though the watch will be obvious on the wrist when the race is run.

Update: Yohan Blake is the new RM ambassador.

News: Nomos Ludwig Oberlehrer chalkboard watch

Nomos recently announced a limited edition for German jeweller Wempe, the Ludwig Oberlehrer ("headmaster" in German), which is part of the annual Wempe100 series. This has an amusing chalkboard coloured dial with fuzzy, chalk-like Roman numerals and minute track. Unfortunately the hands are rhodium rather than chalk.

The idea is not entirely original. Fortis once did something similar, though I find the Nomos more subtle.

The Nomos Ludwig Oberlehrer is in the classic, and a bit small, 35 mm Tangente case (those seeking something larger can look at the new blue Zurich wristwatch).

Hands-On With The Chopard Grand Prix de Monaco Historique 2012 Edition

Each year Chopard presents automotive themed limited edition watches, the most well known being the Mille Miglia; the tyre tread rubber straps that have been relentlessly copied elsewhere originated with the Mille Miglia.

To me these watches tend to look mostly the same from year to year, but this year's Grand Prix de Monaco Historique 2012 caught my eye. Two versions are available, the first is an unusual blue and grey with rose gold accents, which is limited to 500 pieces (ref. 168992-9001).

Profile: Roger Dubuis on Roger Dubuis

Mr Roger Dubuis recently rejoined his namesake brand as a brand ambassador and consultant of sorts. He recently went on a world tour and was just in Singapore where I was fortunate enough to interview him. On his wrist was a classic Sympathie S37 Biretrograde Perpetual Calendar in rose gold, which Mr Dubuis proclaims his favourite.

Mr Dubuis explains the biretro perpetual was the first complication he developed. He conceived and then manufactured the perpetual calendar module in what was then his small atelier.
